Pregnancy Month by Month

 The first
By the end of the third month, the baby is about 6 cm in size. Most of the orgnas are in place but still have to grow. Baby is surrounded by the amniotic fluid at this time. The mother’s physical changes are not apparent.Mother’s face may look flushed and breasts may become slightly enalrged.Symptoms to beware of and report to doctor - pain in abdomen, vaginal discharge, burning sensation when passing urine, severe /continuous vomitting.

The second trimester

 The baby starts growing very fast. By the end of the sixth month it weighs about half kg and is about 20 cm long. Baby now sleeps and stays awake like us.It is responsive to external stimuli, sound in particular.Mother’s lower tummy starts bulging. She may feel the baby kick from the end of fifth month.Symptoms to beware of and report to doctor - pain in abdomen, vaginal discharge, burning sensation when passing urine, severe /continuous vomitting.Sharp abdominal pain, sudden swelling of feet or headaches.

The third trimester

 The baby is now curled up in the uterus with its head towards the mother’s feet. The baby responds to light and can hear music. Its skin becomes smoother and fat is depositing under the skin. By now it decides its final postion in the uterus 90% of the time with head in the pelvis.Mother may feel pressure in lower abdomen and may have to pass urine frequently. Baby’s head pressing against vagina may cause discomfort which may be eased with breathing exercises.Symptoms to beware of and report to doctor - pain in abdomen, vaginal discharge, burning sensation when passing urine, severe /continuous vomitting.Sharp abdominal pain, sudden swelling of feet or headaches, sudden weight gain.
