New born care

As a new parent dozens of thoughts would cross your mind with the arrival of your little one. Anxiety at being able to be the best as a new parent one amongst the many.
As a new, especially a first time parent there are a few simple things you need to know to take adequate care of your new born.
New born care - skin
Mild soap like Johnson’s should be used for the baby’s bath. Skin rashes are common to occur within the first few days of birth and generally subside on there own.
Oil Massage for the new born -
There are no medical guidelines necessitating oil massage but this is usually done for most babies. As long as the oil used causes no skin allergies and the tender bosy parts are not hurt by massage, an oil massage may be followed.
New born care - Cord
Do not fuss over it other than just ensuring a few things. Do not tie the diaper over it. Ensure that it is kept clean and dry. Follow any specific instructions from your doctor, ex, using betadine to keep it free of infection. It dries up and falls off on its own so do not worry over it.
New born care - Eyes
Sometimes there is mucous near the eyes persistently. This happens as in many babies the tear duct is initially blocked. Massaging between the nose and the eye where the tear duct is located helps open it up. A little bit of routine mucous is however not a tear duct blockage symptom and may be cleaned with cotton dipped in sterilized water.
New born care - Ears and nose
In most cases you would notice that the ear and nose cleaning gets taken care of effortlessly. A little massage on the nose durig bath time helps pull the dirt out. Ears should be dried up carefully after a bath and so should be the arm pit, neck, skin between the toes and fingers.
New born care - Breast feeding
The new born should be fed on demand rather than trying to discipline him right after birth. New borns drink frequently - as frequent as every hour sometimes. They should be burped and held in a upright position to ensure proper digestion and to avoid gas and colic. Try feed in a posture with the upper body higher than the lower body to help ease digestion. Drink lots of fluid and eat nutrition rich food. Do not use any medicines while breast feeding without consulting your doctor.
New born care - Rashes due to nappy
Avoid nappies if possible and use cotton diapers. USs them only if necessary during outings or occasionally during the day/night if needed. Nappies trap heat and cause rashes.
New born care - Care of the genitals
Clean with cotton and water. Keep it clean and dry. In girls, while cleaning, separate the labial folds and clean gently.
New born care - Vitamin and Calcium supplements should be given to the new born as prescribed by your doctor.
New born care - Scheduling
Avoid scheduling and disciplining right away in the first few weeks. Relax and enjoy your baby. And when you do start scheduling let sunlight do the work for your baby to help distinguish between day and night hours. At night put the baby in dim light so that he realizes its time to sleep through.
